I cover this song a capella…and I am privileged to even be able to try…a very young and handsome Luther does a great job…this was written in ’60’s when black folks singing and speaking up brought death and physical attacks…

Laura Pausini – Jamás Abandoné — I Have Never Stopped

Again I find myself here on this stage, again I.
Again I find myself here because your Appointment now is equal to mine.

You have seen the day of my departure,
There is your poetry in my return
To be faraway has been an experience, however that may be.

I have never stopped loving you,
I have never put away my thoughts about you.
I have never stopped…

I have looked for the beauty and found it deep in the simplicity.
I have looked for my past because they have told me they do it like this.

We all look for a good way
And we find it in other’s lives
And this night belongs now to us.

I have never stopped loving you,
I would not give anything that there is not.
And to my way (to my way)…

I know well how much fantasy we want to leave,
It returns only going away.

Again I (again I)
Again you (again you)

There is someone who’s waited with open eyes And does not get lost any more
Not lose any more.

I have never stopped loving you,
I have never put away my thoughts about you.
I have never stopped…

I am like that…
You have asked me “come back”, while I was already here.

Laura Pausini – Bastaba – “It Was Enough.”

A smile in return to a smile,
It was enough.
A room for two and no any gold altar –
It was enough.

In a room of one European hotel
It could be possible to continue talking or joking
Or exchanging a slap in the face of reconciliation.
The one who surrenders, wins, he is offended and tells it

How have we come to wish to each other a lot of bad, I don’t know,
How have we let ourselves say that everyone does what he can?

The walking in the center of the city in clear midday,
It was enough,
To foreseen your boredom, to settle scores with the hate,
It was enough.

To do without good manners which make confused and steel the space and depth,
And to throw each other under ice water and to accept that all passes.

How have we come to wish to each other a lot of bad, I don’t know,
How have we let ourselves say that everyone does what he can?

How have we driven each other, you and me,
How have we let ourselves say that everyone does the best for himself,
It was enough.

To tell everything,
Even if after you understand a little what you’ve told,
To chew words, to remain in vertical,
It was enough.

This night is opening my eyes and looking at us,
It sees the poor caresses of the war.
This night is opening my eyes and looking at us,
It sees the silver tears which are falling down on the ground.

How have we come to wish to each other a lot of bad, I don’t know,
How have we let ourselves say that everyone does what he can?
(It was enough)

That everyone does what he can,
(It was enough)
It was enough,
It was enough,
It was enough.

Remember, how much it was enough,
It was enough, x2

One of the prettiest melodies ever and beautiful lyrics.  Awesume vocal.  He is so gentle with the lyrics and then builds.  Great artistry.

I have 3 bootiful love songs I cover:  “When I Fell In Love” Nat King Cole,  this one and “Hero”  The Family of the Year.  A singer of love songs couldn’t ask for more.

What I dream I had, pressed in organdy,

Clothed in crinoline of smoky Burgundy,

Softer than the rain.

I wandered empty streets down past the shop displays.

I heard cathedral bells tripping down the alley ways, as I walked on.

And when you ran to me, your cheeks flushed with the night.

We walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight, I held your hand

And when I awoke and felt you warm and near,

I kissed your honey hair with my grateful tears.

Oh, I love you, girl. Oh, I love you.

Kinda a true story.  Why do we fall in love with people and things that do nothing but damage us — more?
Her Black, Black Heart
My baby’s got a black, black heart, black lips and finger nails
She tried to scratch my eyes out, last time I posted bail
black striped stockings, short black dress
I give her money, and a place to crash
Always smells dirty, breaks every rule
My baby is high class cruel

Her black, black heart is irresistible
together, we spin out depraved
Her black, black heart makes her sexy and vicious
always gets what she craves
Still, I kiss and crave — her black, black heart (more…)

I wrote the title and first verse for this about 6 years ago when the recession started.  Just finished it last week.   Stared as protest song and then included a hard relationship that ends.

A bad relationship is like a crippled nation.

Have been playing out at open mics.   It’s a sweet pretty and dark song.  Fun to play and sing — but not the best for the loud, drunk-filled sports bars I usually play in.  Here is recording –

This Crippled Nation

V1 – We walk away on the sharp and broken pieces
of a love we knew was mad
We stoop to fit splinters back together
they cut us deeper, we just bleed more, so sad

Chrous
But I do see in this shattered love,
some hope with resignation
If I let all this go and die away
Will peace come to this crippled nation? (more…)

Alcoholism is pure evil.  Many talented musicians I play with wash their talent away with booze.   For many getting and staying drunk is the reason they play music.  Most of the places my friends and I play are sports bars or crappy bars where everyone is blasted and couldn’t listen or have a coherent conversation if they wanted.

Still, songs about addiction and written by addicts are usually pretty powerful  No where to hide.   “Hurt” by Trent Reznor via J. Cash is the best example.  “I Am Not and Addict” is also good.

Here are a couple of booze driven lyrics, just came across today.

1.  Hollywood Undead – Pour Me Lyrics belowhttp://youtu.be/BUjbADGh7JU
2.  Carrie Underwood “Blown Away” – http://youtu.be/pJgoHgpsb9I

Pour me, pour me, pour me another,
It holds me, holds me,
Like no other,
One more drink, then I swear that I’m going home,
Truth is, I don’t really have a place to go,
So pour me, pour me, pour me another. (more…)
